I met Shawn July 4, 2003 in Hartford, CT at Meadows Music Centre where he
was signing autographs to benefit the SUBWAY Scholarship fund.According the website I got this information from he was scheduled to sign from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm... I arrived at 12:45 pm only to find out he had left at 12:00...turns out the time had "changed".
I was really discouraged, but a friend of mine was like no, no, no he HAS got to still be here you came all this way (from NC) and she was literally on a mission to find him. She was asking the guys at the SUBWAY booth of his whereabouts telling them how far I traveled and so forth along with telling the same to security and staff personnel. One of the guys at the booth said...he may be in the VIP area. So, we walk over knowing we could not get in...but my friend was relentless and of course no luck, but then here comes the guy from the booth, says to us...wait a second... walks inside and the next thing I know OMG here comes Shawn ! I mean here I am thinking there is no way he's going to come out...he's done...that's it.
Wrong!
He walks towards me reaching out with his hand to shake mine and the other to hug me...somehow I managed to say no hand shake, I want a hug (meaning both arms). lol He really seemed flattered to learn how far I traveled and thanked me for coming ... we chatted about that for a minute or so and honestly, I could hardly speak, but was "shaking" just fine! And yeah, he is beautiful! He signed the magazine "The Wrestler" from Aug. '96 featuring when he finally won the title from Bret Hart, along with the new DVD "From The Vault", he then personalized a black and white photo which he gave to me and asked my friend would she like one too, of course she said yes and a guy behind me asked him to sign the same for his son, in which he did and was glad to do it! After he was done signing he hugged and thanked me again and I kissed him on the cheek, wished him Happy Birthday and thanked him for taking the time to come out and see me while tears of joy streamed down my face. Last thing he said was take care and I said you too and I hope to see you at Wrestlemania XX !
I found Shawn to be an absolute sweetheart and one of the nicest people I have ever had the opportunity to meet. I will never forget how gracious he was. He never once seemed like he was "put out". Sadly, I didn't get a photo with him because the event was only allowing disposable cameras, but hey, that's OK I am NOT complaining. I had a personal moment with him and I feel sure I'll get that photo some other time.I thank God and many others for making July 4, 2003 a very special day for me.
I am still in awe!!
WOW ! Did this really happen???
