Will he help KENS gain a chokehold on the ratings?
Who knows, but the station reports retired wrestling star Shawn Michaels will keep his ponytail and earrings when he joins them later this month; what will be different is that one of his famed fists will hold a microphone.
KENS announced Thursday that Michaels has signed an agreement with the station to do sports reporting three days a week, starting Aug. 16. He'll primarily cover high school sports, said Bob McGann KENS general manager.Michaels, who was one of wrestling's top names until a serious back injury shortened his career last year - and who once graced the pages of Playgirl magazine - will divide his time between TV sports and a wrestling school he recently founded on San Antonio's West Side. It's called Shawn Michaels' Wrestling Academy.
Michaels is the latest addition to the KENS sports ranks, after the station bid farewell to two of its longtime employees: weekend sportscaster Lisa Burkhardt and sports reporter Maury Vasquez.
Joe Brown, an engaging sportscaster from New York, will begin his new weekend sports anchor job at KENS today.
