Is it time for the Kliq?
That was the burning question going through my mind at the end of RAW on Monday.
Should they? Would they? How could they? Also made cameo appearances as extensions to my first thought. Well, now that I’ve a day and half to mull it over, I think the answer is yes, if done correctly.
For those who don’t know, the Kliq was the name that Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Nash, Sean Waltman (123 Kid, Syxx, X-Pac, Mr. Chyna or whatever he goes by now) and Hall went by many years ago backstage in the then WWF. They were known for hanging together after events, and helping each other in the ring. In fact, if you go back and look, many of these guys had some of their best matches against each other – HBK vs. Razor Ramon at WrestleMania 10 immediately comes to mind.
Fast forward to the present day, and on Monday night, we all got a taste of the Kliq at the beginning and ending of RAW, and the way the show ended, everything is up in the air. Nash could side with Triple H, or HBK or even go on his own.
Like I previously stated, if done correctly, the Kliq could be a major force, and this is how I would build the feud.
Next week during the Booker T, Triple H world Title match, have Nash come to the rescue of Booker T, who will lose the match due to interference from Ric Flair, Jericho and even Randy Orton.
I would have Big Sexy come down to the ring, and lay out Orton and Jericho with powerbombs. Hunter would walk away, and not confront his former friend. To get a good shot to end RAW, Booker T could be helped up by an apologetic Kevin Nash.
At Backlash, have the team of Flair, Triple H and Y2J win the match when Hunter clocks Nash on the head with a sledge hammer (behind the refs back).
Then, have Nash and Triple H feud all the way until the Judgment Day PPV. During this time, Nash and HBK could “accidentally” hit each other during a tag match, or something to tease a split.
At Judgment Day itself, I would have Triple H keep his belt with a big assist from Shawn Michaels, who would lay Big Daddy Cool out ‘accidentally’ with the Sweet Chin Music, giving Hunter another assist in keeping his title.
The lead into Badd Blood in June (which is slated to be the first RAW brand PPV) would be Goldberg chasing Triple H for the World Title. On a Kliq front, Nash and HBK would chalk up their previous misunderstandings and accidental hits to bad timing and agree to be friends. HBK could once again do battle with Jericho and Nash could maybe face Randy Orton on the RAW Brand under card.
The main event would see “The Man” face The Game. To this point, Goldberg will be undefeated in the WWE having squashed all wrestlers in his way, and after weeks of attempted sneak attacks, Goldberg will finally get his hands on Triple H.
I would end the match with the mandatory ref bump, followed by a Spear and Jackhammer from Goldberg. Goldberg would then go for the pin, only to realize that no ref was present to make the count. Flair and Orton would then try to attack Goldberg, causing HBK and Nash to run down to ‘make the save’. The two would battle Orton and Flair out of the ring, and then Michaels would give Goldberg the Sweet Chin Music. Nash would then give Goldberg the Powerbomb and slide Triple H on top of ‘The Man’ while Michaels threw the ref in the ring. Triple H would get the pinfall victory, and the Kliq would be back together.
Since the July PPV is scheduled to be a Smackdown! event, it gives the RAW brand two months to build their line-up for SummerSlam in August. In the two-months, I would have Goldberg go on streak where he just destroys everyone in his path, and Triple H would steer clear of him. It would be a gauntlet type of scenario where big Bill would destroy each guy that Triple H would throw in front of him week after week. Also during this time, Jericho would turn face, and Orton and Flair will be violently taken out by the Kliq.
At SummerSlam, Goldberg could vent his months of pent up rage by destroying the Game in the center of the ring, capturing the World Championship. The RAW half of the under-card would see Jericho defeat HBK, and Nash defeating Booker T (maybe with the help of Scott Hall if his life is turned around, or maybe by a returning Sean Waltman).
There it is, free of charge, four months of booking for WWE. What I like about it is that it breaks Goldberg’s winning streak before it begins, which to me is a good thing, because recent history has shown that WWE has a poor track record for following up WCW ideas. Since they’re not going to market Goldberg with another win streak, they might as well nip the idea in the bud early.
I also like the fact that since there’s going to be two months between RAW brand talent at PPV’s that Goldberg isn’t the Champion heading into SummerSlam. I think that there are more options having a face chase a heel for a title shot for two months than vice versa. Also, knowing how agitated most fans are (myself included) with the fact that Triple H has a white-knuckle death grip on the title, just think how frothing at the mouth we’re going to be after seeing Trips with the title for two-months taunting Goldberg before he finally gives it up?
Also, turning Jericho face will be a new spin on the HBK vs Y2J match from WrestleMania. Since they both will have switched rolls since the ‘grand daddy of them all’ it should add some spice to both of there characters.
I realize that many things can change, and that wrestlers can get hurt, but as fans I think that we really enjoy events that have a slow build. I know that I was waiting for Rock vs. Brock for at least half a year before it happened. That match proves that when WWE have a long term plan and stick with it, good things happen.
Will they bring the Kliq together? They might, but they won’t call them the nWo or DX. It will be something new, and hopefully exciting. I really believe that if it’s done right, it could go over well and boost the sagging ratings in the U.S.A.
At the end of the day though, who really knows what’s going to happen? If you’ve read my stuff before, it’s safe to say that I probably don’t.
